It’s about time…

Over the course of the 5+ years I have lived in Minneapolis, I would imagine that I have made it to the Bulldog NE quite a bit more than is healthy to admit. With that in mind, it dawned me while visiting last week that I have never featured this NE staple on the blog. Here it goes…

After a long day of work the last thing I wanted to do was cook dinner. So, I was thrilled to learn that my boyfriend shared the same sentiment. We headed over to The Bulldog NE to grab a burger and a drink. The burget list is extensive and has changed a few times over the years. But I was feeling pretty traditional and thus ordered the house burger sans tomatoes add white cheddar.

The burgers are made from a Waygu beef blend and mine was thick and juicy; while the the bun was soft-as-can-be. I can’t believe I havne’t told you about these fries– they are truly divine. Thin potatoes strips fried to brown and crispy perfection then sprinkled with sea salt…serious heaven status.

The house burger with fries did the trick, hit the spot, was spot on… all those wonderful phrases you use when something was just what you were craving! If you haven’t checked out The Bulldog NE I would recommend doing so ASAP… and don’t forget to try their amazing assortment of beers…. and the brunch, it is one of the best around!

Cheers!

Is there a bad time for sushi?

My first time… at The Social House

On Wednesday my girlfriend Christine and I headed out for her belated birthday celebration. As a fellow lover of sushi, she opted for a new sushi restaurant called Social House; on the corner of Lagoon and Hennepin in Uptown. Not only was I looking forward to celebrating but  I was also looking forward to it because I had never been there before.

I apologize for the lack of food pictures. When we got to the Social House it as late afternoon and the floor to ceiling windows allowed in a great deal of light. But as the evening progressed, the wine flowed, the sun set and thus terribly dim lighting for food pictures (I need a new camera). Nonetheless, we started with the Edamame which could be served hot with sea salt or tossed in a spicy chili sauce; we picked chili sauce. The we chose three rolls the Fuyu, #9 and Christine’s favorite, the Philly; add cucumber, no avocado. They were all pretty good although I would say not the best sushi I have ever had but it did the trick.

The Social House has a great atmosphere, and a wonderful happy hour. As they have more experience under their belt I think that the food will continue to improve. Our service was fantastic; very attentive and willing to give recommendations. She also allowed us to swap out a complimentary dessert for a birthday shot instead. Christine loved it and I had a great time catching up with her!

“This is how you do it”

My former roomate Lindsay had no idea what a monster she was creating when she invited me to join her for a yoga class. We had just moved to Denver, and I was trying to take in all the city had to offer.  I thought, what the heck?  Speed up to today… it’s hot and muggy outside. 81 degrees with the humidity at 70%. And what did I want to do after work?? Walk into a yoga studio that is nearly 20 degrees warmer and partake in some downward dogs and chaturangas. It’s my little love affair (thanks Linds!)!!

Tonight’s class was at a CorePower Studio that is new to me; nestled in Stadium Village on the U of M campus– I fell in love all over again. Your skins moistens as soon as you walk through the door and yet somehow you find yourself feeling lighter. I slipped off my flip flops and entered the studio to lay out my mat. The floor had more give then the gymnasium floor in elementary school. The music is low and the sun beaming through the floor to ceiling windows. I laid down and and let it all go.

Tonight I had the honor of taking class from Nora. She has the amazing ability of helping you to forget about the world we live in day to day. You bring everything to the mat–lay it down and just breathe for 60 solid minutes. Vinyasa after vinyasa, pose after pose, Nora encourages and challenges you to move beyond your edge. The sweat and the humidity in the room builds and your focus is enhanced. Each class is a adventure as your body and it’s limits are different each practice. It is on my mat where I feel truly empowered. We all did the same poses, were in the same room, and even shared the same breath. But the incredible thing about yoga is that we all take something different away from the experience.

I encourage everyone to try, at least once–although I would recommend doing it more often of course. Here’s the website… (www.corepoweryoga.com) feel free to visit the site and explore. Challenge yourself to go beyond your edge, and try something new today!

Not a psycho but I love her

After a morning of moving— I was enlisted me to join a Sunday Funday! This glorious afternoon was spent baking on the patio @ Psycho Suzi’s in NE Minneapolis. While I have heard many wonderful things about the establishment this was my very first visit. And everything lived up to the hype!

There she is....

The food and the atmosphere exceeded our expectations. Our table was situatated on a sprawling patio covered with tropical looking plants and grass umbrellas! The waitress was a edgy girl with sleeves of vibrantly colored tattoos and large plugs in her ears; she was fantastic. We split four appetizers of a somewhat 1970’s fare– deviled eggs, fried cheese curds, onion rings and pickle roll-ups; DE-LISH!! Psycho Suzi’s also offers and entire menu of just Tiki style drinks. From the One-Eyed Willy to the Paralyzed Polynesian, these drinks don’t disappoint.

Yum in the Tum

Are we in Hawaii?!

I could have had a few more

There was even a magic show

I would recommend Psycho Suzi’s to anyone in the Twin Cities, and if you need some partners in crime– come join us!!! Wonderful way to start the summer! Cheers!!!!

Old McDonald

I must admit it is a little embarrassing that I have lived in Minneapolis for nearly a year and half and have never made it to the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market. UNTIL TODAY! I was so excited to join my girlfriend Casie and her beautiful baby girl on this outing!  I walked down every “lane” twice just to make sure that I soaked everything in. I came away with some great finds and a new weekend activity!

Look at this beauty

I'll take one of everything!

What's up Doc?

Here comes the bride
