Bun Mi? Why yes!

My first time at… Bun Mi

Today (on the recommendation of our friend), my friend and I headed out of the office for lunch and over to Bun Mi in Dinkytown. Aj raved about the food at this place. I skimmed the menu prior to going and everything sounded yummy. When we arrived, the line was nearly out the door and the smells wafting from the inside were insane. If you are a frequent reader of the blog it will come as no surprise that I am a sucker for Asian food and with a name like Bun Mi, I had high hopes.

I got in line and was thrilled to see that during the lunch rush there was actually a “waitress” that made her way down the line with an iPad taking your order. You then made your way up to the counter picked up your drink, paid your tab, and waited for your number to be called.

Since it was my first time, I thought it appropriate to try the “Bun Mi Special”– Grilled Pork, Egg and Pate topped with fresh and pickled ingredients including cilantro, jalapenos, carrots, cucumbers, green onions and an asian style mayo.

The sandwich was huge and stuffed to the brim. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It was the perfect combination of veggies and delicious, perfectly seasoned grilled pork. When we bit into our sandwiches, we both commented that we thought we would be back– then we saw the salads and that solidified that we will not only be back, but be back often.
