My first… unsolicited foot touching
Everyone has idiosyncracies that simply defy logic– and apparently mine revolves around my feet. Save myself, my mom (when I was a kid), and the lady that does my pedicures no one touches my bare feet. I am all for a foot rub with socks on but naked tootsie touching is a no go!
So last night at yoga when I received and impromptu and unsolicited “foot stretch” from the yoga instructor’s apprentice during Shivasana, I was a little caught off guard. I didn’t know whether to kick, laugh uncomfortably just breathe and stay calm in the moment?
I opted to stay calm– for my sake and his. And I found that while I still don’t love having my feet touched it helped me to go into a deeper state of relaxation (after the initial shock subsided). While this may not be a huge revelation it was the first time in a long time that I have been made to go outside of my comfort zone and in the end proved to be a helpful reminder that I need to do go beyond that zone more often!
